Frequently Asked Questions
Some questions frequently come back from my clients, I summarize some of my answers.
Question One: The price of translation
The question of the price of the translation service would be equivalent to asking an auto dealer “the price of a red or blue car” without first having specified the type, model, brand, the desired options.
That’s why I realize for you a personalized translation quote, taking into account the volume to translate, the type of text, format and file, the language pair, the desired finish, deadlines, etc.
Question Two: Why should I use a professional?
If you want a quality work, for your translation needs, there is only one way to do it: using a translator. No doubt, because there is no comparison between machine translation and human translation as to the quality of the final rendering.
Question Three: What is a good translation
Some would argue that the understanding of the text to be translated must be objective and that its translation is necessarily subjective. The language is subjective and the translator expresses, as an author, a part of subjectivity.
However, a well-translated text should simply give the impression of having been written in one’s own language. Nothing must be shocking. At no time should the reader have to read a sentence twice to understand it.
Question Four: Translate 10,000 words / day?
One of the most common clichés is to think that translation is easy. Just think about the time it took you to write your document. Well, you can’t obviously put a lot less time to translate than to write.
Translation is a linguistic production exercise in the same way as writing.
On average, a translator can only translate between 1500 and 2500 words per day, taking into account the quality of the work.
The only way to translate 10,000 words a day would be to use machine translation (a machine, with no guarantee of quality), or to share the work between several translators. These are two solutions that go against the quality on which I commit myself. That is why, no, I cannot and will never be able to translate 10 000 words for the next day, even with the best will in the world.
